Long rigid pipe bundle
Straight PVC pipe strapped as one handling unit
PVC pipe freight class can vary with the finished bundle dimensions, total packaged weight, nesting, and void space. Straight rigid pipe, nested bundles, PVC conduit, and different wall-thickness configurations can calculate differently.
To estimate your freight class, use the PVC Pipe Freight Class Calculator ↓.
A bundled rigid PVC pipe shipment is preloaded as an example. Replace the outside bundle dimensions and total packaged weight with your actual shipment.

PVC pipe shipment examples
These are illustrative planning examples, not typical PVC pipe weights or commodity-specific class assignments. They show how finished bundle dimensions, nesting, and total packaged weight can change density and the resulting generic density-chart class estimate.
Straight PVC pipe strapped as one handling unit
Smaller pipe nested inside larger pipe to reduce void space
Shorter packaged bundle with less unused cube
PVC pipe shipping profiles
PVC pipe shipment density and handling needs can change with bundle geometry, wall thickness, nesting, and overall length.
| PVC pipe shipment | Common packaging | Density tendency | Stackability | Planning note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Straight rigid PVC pipe | Banded bundle, dunnage, or supported skid | Low to medium | Often limited | Measure the full rectangular bundle envelope, including supports and projections. |
| Nested mixed-diameter pipe | Smaller pipe secured inside larger pipe, then bundled | Medium | Limited | Nesting can reduce unused cube, but the completed bundle still needs secure banding and support. |
| PVC conduit bundles | Banded straight lengths, cartons, or supported bundles | Varies | Conditional | Use the dimensions and total weight of the complete shipment rather than individual conduit dimensions. |
| Extra-long rigid bundles | Extended supports, dunnage, or specialized handling | Varies | Often non-stackable | Confirm carrier length limits, handling restrictions, and any applicable accessorial charges before booking. |
Rigid PVC pipe shipments can vary by diameter, wall thickness, bundle configuration, length, and packaging. Plan around the completed handling unit rather than the dimensions of one pipe.
| Measure | Use this value |
|---|---|
| Length | Longest outside point of the completed pipe bundle or handling unit, including supports and projections. |
| Width | Widest outside point of the finished strapped bundle, skid, dunnage, or protective packaging. |
| Height | Highest outside point of the completed bundle as tendered for shipment. |
| Weight | Total packaged shipment weight, including pipe, bands, skid, dunnage, wrapping, and other handling materials. |
Good to know: Measuring only one pipe diameter can understate the bundle cube. Freight density should use the full outside dimensions of the completed handling unit.

Freight classes shown on this page are density-based estimates for shipment planning.
