Dense palletized paper cases
Tightly packed cartons of copy or printing paper
Paper products freight class can vary with the finished package dimensions, total packaged weight, product form, and pallet configuration. Cut-size paper, cartons of paper goods, wrapped sheets, rolls, and other palletized paper shipments can calculate differently.
To estimate your freight class, use the Paper Products Freight Class Calculator ↓.
A pallet of dense paper cases is preloaded as an example. Replace the outside dimensions and total packaged weight with your actual paper shipment.

paper products shipping profiles
Paper freight can range from dense cases and stacked sheets to large rolls or lighter converted paper products. Moisture protection, edge condition, pallet squareness, and total weight are important planning variables.
| Paper Products shipment | Common packaging | Density tendency | Stackability | Planning note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cut-size and copy paper cases | Corrugated cases on a pallet, stretch wrap, top cap | High | Often stackable when case strength supports it | Keep the load square, dry, and within the pallet footprint. |
| Printing and sheet paper | Wrapped sheets, cartons, skids, or palletized bundles | Medium to high | Conditional | Protect corners and faces from moisture, abrasion, and concentrated top loads. |
| Paper rolls | Wrapped roll, cradle, chocks, pallet or roll-handling base | High but variable | Often limited | Control rolling and shifting and measure the full roll or handling-base footprint. |
| Converted paper goods | Cartons, bundles, cases, or palletized consumer products | Varies | Conditional | Void space and carton height can lower packaged density even when the product is paper-based. |
Paper-products freight varies by paper form, roll or sheet configuration, carton strength, pallet weight, and moisture exposure. Inspect the completed load and protect the paper from conditions that can weaken packaging or damage edges.
| Measure | Use this value |
|---|---|
| Length | Longest outside point of the finished pallet, carton stack, wrapped roll, bundle, or other handling unit. |
| Width | Widest outside point, including stretch wrap, corner protection, roll cradles, or any actual overhang. |
| Height | From the floor to the highest point of the completed load, including the pallet, top cap, roll, or protective packaging. |
| Weight | Total packaged shipment weight, including paper products, cartons or wrap, pallet or handling base, and protective materials. |
Good to know: Paper form matters. Dense cases, taller converted-paper cartons, and rolls can occupy very different cubes even when their shipment weights are similar.
Pallet weight reference
If your packaged paper-products shipment fits within a 48 × 40 × 48 in handling unit, this table shows approximately how much the completed pallet would weigh at common freight-density breakpoints.
| Density | Approx. pallet weight | Estimated class |
|---|---|---|
| 6 lb/ft³ | 320 lb | 125 |
| 8 lb/ft³ | 427 lb | 100 |
| 10 lb/ft³ | 533 lb | 92.5 |
| 12 lb/ft³ | 640 lb | 85 |
| 15 lb/ft³ | 800 lb | 70 |
| 22.5 lb/ft³ | 1,200 lb | 65 |
Reference volume: approximately 53.33 cu ft. These are derived planning values, not paper-product weight requirements.
Use your actual pallet dimensions, packaged weight, and quantity for shipment planning.
Pallet Freight CalculatorTrailer space reference
For standard palletized paper-product shipments using 48 × 40 in pallets loaded two across with the 40-inch side running down the trailer, this table shows the approximate trailer floor length used by common pallet counts.
| Standard pallets | Pallet rows | Approx. linear feet |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | 1 | 3.3 ft |
| 4 | 2 | 6.7 ft |
| 6 | 3 | 10.0 ft |
| 8 | 4 | 13.3 ft |
| 10 | 5 | 16.7 ft |
| 12 | 6 | 20.0 ft |
Actual trailer-space usage can change with pallet orientation, overhang, roll or bundle dimensions, loading constraints, or freight that cannot be loaded two across.
Use your actual pallet dimensions, quantity, and orientation for a more specific trailer-space estimate.
