Foam Freight Class by Shipment Type
Foam products are often very light for the cube they occupy. Compression level, cell structure, block dimensions, bagging, cartons, rebound after compression, and whether the load can support top weight strongly affect density-based class guidance.

Large, irregular, non-stackable, unusually valuable, or specially handled foam shipments may need carrier review before booking.
Foam Packaging, Stackability, and Damage Risk
Foam Packaging
- Bag or wrap foam against dirt, moisture, oil, sparks, and abrasion.
- Use wide bands, full-face caps, or cartons so securement does not cut or permanently dent the foam.
- Support oversized blocks and molded shapes across the full pallet footprint.
Foam Stackability
- Compressed foam bundles may allow limited stacking when capped and compression remains stable.
- Uncompressed blocks can deform under top loads even when the outer wrap looks intact.
- Treat molded inserts, cushions, and low-density specialty foam as non-stackable.
Foam Compression, Contamination, and Shape Protection
- Prevent permanent compression set, tears, contamination, punctures, and shape distortion.
- Keep foam away from sharp edges, heat sources, fuels, oils, and welding sparks.
- Allow for rebound when compressed bundles may expand beyond quoted dimensions.

How to Measure a Packaged Foam Shipment
- Measure after compression, bagging, cartons, pallet caps, and support panels are complete.
- Include rebound allowance, overhanging blocks, outer wrap, corner protectors, and top caps.
- Use the total packaged weight of foam, bags, cartons, pallets, and compression materials.
Foam Freight Quote Checklist
- Measure the finished compressed bundle, pallet, carton group, or supported foam block.
- Record the total packaged weight of the complete foam shipment, including bags and support panels.
- State whether the package can accept top loading without permanent compression or deformation.
- Include photos of compression bands, wrapping, block overhang, cartons, top caps, and exposed corners.
- Confirm no-top-load, volume-freight, dry-handling, forklift, and rebound-dimension requirements.
