Transmissions are dense, irregular assemblies that require strong skids, fluid control, and secure blocking. Freight class depends on crate cube, unit weight, whether fluids are fully drained, exposed shafts and pans, core condition, accessory packaging, and forklift access.

Transmission Packaging, Stackability, and Damage Risk
Transmission Packaging
- Drain fluids as required, install plugs or caps, use a leak-resistant liner, and mount the transmission to a strong skid or crate base.
- Block the housing against movement, support the bellhousing and tailshaft, and protect pans, shafts, connectors, sensors, and mounting ears.
- Package torque converters, control modules, coolers, loose hardware, and return cores in separated, labeled compartments.
Transmission Stackability
- A fully enclosed transmission crate may stack only when the crate frame carries the top load rather than the transmission housing.
- Open skids and core bins generally require limited-stack handling because of exposed components and leak-containment systems.
- Treat transmissions with protruding shafts, unsupported bellhousings, mixed accessories, or uncertain fluid condition as non-stackable.
Transmission Leakage, Housing, Shaft, and Core-Return Protection
- Prevent fluid leakage, cracked housings, bent shafts, damaged pans, broken connectors, shifted torque converters, and crate breakout.
- Protect machined sealing surfaces, sensors, solenoids, warranty tags, serial numbers, and core-return documentation.
- Document transmission type, drained status, unit count, serial or part number, core status, declared value, and center of gravity.

How to Measure a Packaged Transmission Shipment
- Measure after all skids, crates, liners, blocks, plugs, accessory compartments, and wraps are installed.
- Include protruding shafts, bellhousing width, crate feet, lifting points, and pallet overhang.
- Use the total packaged weight of the transmission, fluids remaining, crate or skid, accessories, and securement.

- Measure the finished drained-unit skid, rebuilt-transmission crate, core-return bin, or transmission-and-accessories shipment.
- Record the total packaged weight, transmission type, unit count, drained status, part or serial number, core status, and declared value.
- State whether the crate is structurally top-load rated or requires limited-stack handling because of open skids, exposed shafts, leak liners, or accessories.
- Include photos of drain plugs, leak liner, bellhousing and tailshaft supports, pan protection, serial labels, blocking, and skid securement.
- Confirm fluid-drain requirements, forklift capacity, liftgate, appointment, limited-stack, return-core, and high-value handling requirements.
